"Welcome to Shivers, can I take your order?"
"We'll have two large diet lime rickey's with extra ice, please."
"Will that be everything?"
"Yip, that will do it"
"It will be $4.30"

Boulder Bathroom Break

A year a go this past January Mel and I spent a weekend with my family at Ruby's Inn and Bryce Canyon. It was a good time. Once we wrapped up with the family, we decided to drive home by way of Boulder Mountain. It was a beautiful day for a ride. If you've driven this route, you know you drive for the scenery and not for the number of options of where you can stop, especially for bathroom breaks on a Sunday. So, to keep a simple story simple, here's what happened. We made it to the very top of the mountain. Mel needed a stop. As luck would have it there was a pullout with a bathroom. Not knowing if it would be locked we decided to check it out. There had been enough snow it had swirled around the bathroom causing big drifts of snow to surround it. Mel braved the drifts, made her way into the unlocked bathroom and deemed the trip successful. On her way back to the car she gracefully made her way over the snowdrifts.....almost. What isn't pictured (because I was laughing to hard) is the frame where she landed on her face. It was then I decided I didn't really need to go that bad...

Relief Society Meeting

I came across this picture taken a couple of summers ago in Santa Clara. This was our Relief Society meeting for this particular day. This is my kind of meeting. Sitting in the sunshine on a spring morning. And, there was plenty of leg room....something I've come to appreciate over the years. If you ever get the chance, this is a fun little stop while visiting southern Utah.

Which is the Real Leprechaun?

#1 - Not sure if this is a look of surprise, shock or just silliness...

2. This one slept with a coat hanger in her mouth

3. This one is negotiating for a motorcycle ride hoping to leave the bike behind.

Last November while visiting Ireland we looked and looked for a real leprechaun. Luckily we found one. Can you guess which picture it is? Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Some Favorite Photos from Visiting Ireland

Me in my Irish camoflauge

Freezing on top of a bus.

Loved all the colored doors.

At the hidden lake.

Self explanatory...

I hope I get to visit Ireland again someday.

High Consumption Days

Typically 'high consumption' days are Sundays and today has been no exception. For some reason I like to justify why these days are necessary. Today, I choose the dreaded daylight savings time combined with the early 9 a.m. church schedule and Primary being the first meeting. Poor teachers.... The kids really didn't know the difference. A week ago on mountain standard time, they were still asleep. So yes, today my rationalization is daylight savings time. I believe today I've had 4 cans and some from a 2 liter jug. That qualifies as 'high consumption'.

Now 'high consumption' days are nothing new to the household. They've been going on for years. Crushed ice and Diet Coke compliments any snack, dinner, breakfast and everything in between on Sundays. It's a beautiful thing...what more can I say? Today it was just extra tasty.

You Look Like You've Been Running a Long Time

Saturday mornings are dedicated to long runs. Long can vary depending on where one is in a marathon training schedule. Saturday we were running 17-18 miles. This qualifies as a long run. Somewhere in the middle of the run, maybe 14 miles or so, we ran into a group of our other running buddies. While visiting with them for a few minutes one of them said to me, "You look like you've been running for a long time."

I kind of brushed it off without thinking about it at that moment.... Then about 10 paces after we we took off again I started thinking about what she'd said. Just exactly what did she mean? I posed the question to the three buddies I was with. We decided it could mean a number of things. Things like:

1) You look like crap and should run home immediately.
2) You look like you are in amazing shape because you've been running for years.
3) You must have gotten up really early because you are wearing that fashionable reflector vest.
4) Visions of Forest Gump come to mind as he kept on running.

It makes me laugh. It also reminds me of another funny line said to me years ago after another long run. My brother and his young son came to help me work on the sprinkling system. After a couple of hours we decided it was time to go Maxfield's Plumbing (one of my favorite stores). I had come home from my 20 mile run and started working in the yard in my running duds. No shower, no nothing. I'm sure the aroma was strong. So, in order to go to Maxfield I said I would hop in the shower quickly and then we'd go. I came out of the house wearing a t-shirt and shorts with my hair still wet and stuffed in a baseball cap. This is when Ryan looked at me and said "Doris, you look better." Poor kid, he'd been traumatized the whole day.

Hmmmm. Maybe it's better I don't think too deeply about just what was said to me this past Saturday morning......

It's March 4th.......Ark Day!

March 4th is a special day. Just ask my Dad and he will tell you one of his all time favorite annual jokes. He will say, "do you know what today is?" You say, "What's today?" He says today is "Ark Day, the day Noah told all the animals to ...........drum roll please......... March 4th! The family all celebrates this day, thanks to my Dad.

So family, I'm curious...what are you doing today to celebrate? How many people will you tell this little bit of trivia? Inquiring minds want to know.

A Strange Combination...

I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out. I do agree that "Your Family Still Matters. What I don't get is what paintball, food storage and violins have in common. Why would someone put them on a van or in a store together. Can someone please explain this to me? This brings a whole new dimension to diversification.

Tuachan Duathlon 2010

At the beginning, before the run, bike and run again.
Sue and Mel completing the run.
Where's Sue? Running, of course!

It was a great weekend. It had all the components of a good time. Good friends, good food, biking, running and (drum roll........) sunshine. Gosh, was I ready for a dose of all of that.
Weekend Honorable Mentions:
  • Dinner at the Electric Cafe in St. George. The Mahi Mahi was excellent.
  • No rain during the duathlon. It was polite enough to wait until the afternoon.
  • Sandwich at Jimmy Johns....and a pickle.
  • A piece of pie from Crowshaw's Gourmet Pies
  • Parmesean Popcorn. Thanks Margaret!
  • A bike ride through Kayenta in the sunshine.
  • Lunch at Poncho and Lefty's
Thanks ladies for a great trip. The weekends just go by way to fast...
